My Story

In 2013 my husband Daniel died instantly in a motorbike accident, leaving me widowed at 36 and a solo parent to 8 and 11 year old girls. As the reality of my loss settled in, I started searching and was astonished to discover that there was pretty much no support for young widowed people in Australia. Last year I met some amazing (widowed) women who have been working towards changing this. It’s the organisation and support I desperately needed when Daniel died.

I’ve walked and continue to walk the path of widowhood. It’s a confusing, heartbreaking, lonely and crazy place to be and cannot be fully comprehended unless you've walked it yourself.

Support programs are being developed and it warms my heart to know that as others join this crappiest of clubs, they will have somewhere to turn, somewhere to reach out to.

Please consider supporting me in my half marathon, the rest of my amazing crew and First Light by donating (donations over $2 are tax deductible) and/or joining our team to run/walk at the Gold Coast Marathon 2017.

Thanks for any and all support,
Jo, J & B xx
